According to a statement from the Chair and Vice Chair of the Maricopa Board of Supervisors, members of Heap’s staff were caught on camera moving election equipment into what appeared to be a personal vehicle and driving away—while votes were still being tabulated.

Prioritized petty politics and power struggles over administering free and democratic elections in Maricopa County and created confusion for election administrators and voters in the process.
The Board of Supervisors are feeling the heat
Recorder Heap and the Maricopa Board of Supervisors were engaged in a legal battle over election responsibilities for over a year. They may have settled their legal disputes, but it’s still our freedom to vote at stake.
Our votes are not theirs to take. Our elections are not theirs to control. The 2026 general election is almost here and the people of Maricopa County deserve better. Hands off our vote!
